I would suggest adding some other toppings, some of my fave are fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onion, cilantro, and (if you can, try to keep some pita bread, or chips on the side for that crunch) Hope they like it!Macaroni and cheese recipe for kids - baked and good???
The best cheat is to use a can of Campbell's cheddar cheese soup and half a can of milk. This is good for about 1/2 pound of elbow noodles.
I cover mine with bread crumbs (or crushed tricuits). I finish by tapping a shaker of paprika on top to make a smiley face.
To make the sauce from scratch I use
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup flour
3 cups milk(whole)
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups cheddar, jack or colby jack cheese.
1 teaspoon white pepper(optional)
1 tbs dry mustard(optional)
Melt the butter in a 6 cup pot and add in flour. cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes until it smells nutty. Add in the milk and slowly bring to a simmer. Add in cheese slowly--remove from heat once it starts to thicken.
Stir in 1 pound cooked macaroni. Move to casserole dish top with crumbs and bake until golden brown.Macaroni and cheese recipe for kids - baked and good???
1/2 pound elbow macaroni
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon powdered mustard
3 cups milk
1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 large egg
12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Fresh black pepper
Topping:
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup panko bread crumbs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente.
While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for ten minutes and remove the bay leaf.
Temper in the egg. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.
Melt the butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat. Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.
Remember to save leftovers for fried Macaroni and Cheese.

You could go the simple classic way . . .
You would need
1 1/2# macaroni
1 1/2 - 2 # Velveeta
1 C. heavy cream
1 C. milk
Cook pasta till desired doneness, in salted water (al denta)
Melt Velveeta with heavy cream and milk, until you have a smooth sauce. Stir in pasta. Yopu could add in and diced meats that youi wanted to ( ham, chicken, hot dogs . . . etc.). Put into your baking dish add a few slices of cheese on top to act as a timer. When cheese is melted it is done.
And serve
just take regular macaroni and cheese and put crushed up cheezits or goldfish on top and bake it. it is divine!
