The best baked macaroni and cheese recipe?

I love my grandma's but I'm always looking to try something different so I will also need to know how much and how to make it... Thank you so much! P.S I have a big family to feed.

The best baked macaroni and cheese recipe?
';Fancy, but easy Mac n' Cheese';

INGREDIENTS

1 small red onion, diced

1 (16 ounce) package small pasta shells

salt and ground black pepper to taste

1 pinch garlic salt

1 tablespoon butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

3 (11 ounce) cans condensed cream of Cheddar cheese soup

2/3 cup shredded Havarti cheese

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 1/3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Place the diced onion in a large pot of lightly-salted water; bring to a boil. Cook the pasta until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes; drain. Transfer the onion and pasta to a casserole dish; season with salt, pepper, and garlic salt. Stir the butter and brown sugar into the pasta mixture until the butter melts. Add the Cheddar cheese soup, Havarti cheese, Parmesan cheese and 1/3 cup of Cheddar cheese; stir well. Sprinkle remaining Cheddar cheese over top of the dish.

Bake in preheated oven about 45 minutes. Change oven setting to 'Broil' and cook until top is golden brown, about 4 minutes.The best baked macaroni and cheese recipe?

Ingredients

* 1/2 pound elbow macaroni

* 3 tablespoons butter

* 3 tablespoons flour

* 1 tablespoon powdered mustard

* 3 cups milk

* 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced

* 1 bay leaf

* 1/2 teaspoon paprika

* 1 large egg

* 12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded

* 1 teaspoon kosher salt

* Fresh black pepper

Topping:

* 3 tablespoons butter

* 1 cup panko bread crumbs

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente.

While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for ten minutes and remove the bay leaf.

Temper in the egg. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.

Melt the butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat. Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.

Remember to save leftovers for fried Macaroni and Cheese.

The recipes above are great, but remember to have the milk hot when combining with the flour. Otherwise the sauce will taste gritty or flour-y. That is the trick.

Another good mac/cheese recipe I do when lazy...

Cook 1 lb elbow macaroni al dente (firm). Drain

In a bowl, I put a can of cream of mushroom soup, a cup of milk (no need for it to be hot in this recipe), a couple handsful shredded cheese, a touch mustard, a touch nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Add cooked drained noodles.

Transfer to buttered casserole. Bake at 350 until browned and bubbly (30 mins?)

you can double the recipe for a BIG family. Just bake a bit longer.
